These Tangled Vines from Julianne MacLean
The best present
These Tangled Vines by Julianne MacLean are the most delightful dual-timeline novel about love and family.
The novel is set in 1986 and 2017 and is seen through the eyes of a mother and her daughter. Secrets have been kept, but now it is time to learn the truth about the summer of 1986.
Julianne MacLean has a colorful palette of words with which she paints the Tuscan landscape alive. The reader can "see" the living landscape through her words. We "feel" the rising heat and "smell" the aromatic food and drink. These tangled vines are a wonderful assault on our senses.
The characters are perfectly drawn, realistic and personable. The reader can "feel" the tension and attraction between the two main characters in 1986, when the emotions and heat sizzle.
This is a novel about love. It is a great sacrificial love. It's a guilty love. It is a love tied to a secret. A self-sacrificing, caring, and compassionate love persists.
We witness the destructive power of a character's wealth when the sense of legitimacy is destroyed. In contrast, we see a life opening up when we realize that inheritance is so much more than money. True inheritance is love.
I absolutely loved These Tangled Vines and read it in just one session. Love radiates from the pages to surround the reader. Love is the greatest gift of all.
I volunteered to review a free copy of this book that I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
