The three most essential classes I realized from the Inspirational Staff at Shazzy Health in 2019
I read my diary at the end of each year. During this time, I look at what things I have to change or add to my life for the coming year.
Below are the three lessons at the top of my list:
God is not on my schedule
In 2019 I planned for God to speak to me at 6:15 am during my morning prayer. I had the audacity to give God a timer. I had a set routine that I followed every day, and that included sitting quietly with soft music and waiting for God to speak to me. But the kicker was that I set a timer. I actually allowed God five minutes to tell me something profound for the day. When I think back to that time, I just shake my head. I can laugh now because you know that God didn't carry out my orders. He did not want to be scheduled for 6:15 a.m. and was only given a few minutes. There were other times during the day when he wanted to speak to me. I can't put God on a schedule, I have to be open to listen whenever He speaks.
Quiet is necessary
I always felt like taking time to rest was a waste of valuable time and doing nothing was a sign of laziness. But when I started feeling overwhelmed and impatient and found it difficult to write in 2019, I knew it was time to do something. I started spending time sitting quietly, listening to music or meditating. I found it in silence that I got peace, clarity and direction.
Stop saving my "good things"
This is due to my growing up and the request not to play in my good clothes. When I cleaned my closet and saw clothes and shoes that I had forgotten or that I hadn't worn in years because they were my "good clothes". I knew it was a time out for this practice. It reminded me of the time I was helping a friend clean up a house. The woman had died and the family had donated her belongings to a women's shelter. There were piles and piles of things, and many of the pieces had markings on them. I realize that it is a time out to keep things for a special occasion. It's not a time like now. Life should be lived now.
So there you have it. My most important lessons for 2019. I will go to 2020 and let God have our conversations, listen to my body, find enough rest and now use my "good things".
