Rev. Isaac Graham, pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in Harlem, New York City, died after becoming infected with the corona virus. The 66-year-old died just six days after a positive test amid the coronavirus pandemic that is currently devastating countries around the world.

The pastor was connected to a ventilator in his final days and quarantined by his wife at his last moments.

His wife Cheryl reported that his last words to her were "I love you," although he couldn't tell her personally because of the quarantine. She said, "I couldn't even go to the mortuary after visiting him because of the effects of the corona virus."

Democratic New York MP Adriano Espaillat said in a statement that Graham was "an invaluable part of Harlem's fabric".

He said, "Our heart and deepest sympathy goes to the community and family of Reverend Isaac Graham, pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in Harlem, who died on Sunday due to the corona virus."

"Rev. Graham was an invaluable part of Harlem's fabric and its presence will be missed throughout our community," he added. "May God comfort his wife Cheryl, her family and friends in this time of death."

He concluded: "We are facing unprecedented times and it will require unprecedented strength, belief and action. We are strong and our communities are strong and we will overcome."

Other New York pastors have expressed their grief and shock at the news of Rev. Graham's death.

Pastor Johnnie Green of Mount Neboh Baptist Church in Harlem said, "He was fine and was expecting a full recovery. Then came the word that he died and caused shock waves."

Pastor Green added that the outbreak of the corona virus has also hit his church hard. He said: "We had 11 of our parishioners tested positive. We had to change two."
