THE DUMONT CHRONICLES
The Dumont family, French Huguenots, settled in New Jersey during the colonial era. Certain Dumont women led adventurous lives and shared gifts of artistry, courage, and growing faith in God. Madeleine Dumont Burke is one of them.
Madeline / "Mollie" is just trying to run away from memories of disturbing abuse by her now deceased husband and the death of her beloved father. Escape to Jersey Pine Country to help her aunt renovate an old house full of junk and antiques seems like a perfect place to hide out and maybe start over. She anticipates that she will spend her days inventorying glassware and cooking for various workers (a lot of cooking in this book. Foodies will love it). When tangled threads of mystery and tension combine to push her out of her comfort zone, Mollie discovers the powerful love of her Eternal God – and the love of a man patient enough to help her heal.
This piece was a calm, beautiful look at the real ways God can empower us. I was often moved to tears at the sincerity of the prayers said by characters. They weren't chic or eloquent or preaching – they just hit the center of a heart in search of hope. Many scenes have stayed with me now, a few days after I “closed” the Kindle, and I have a feeling this will be a book that I will remember for a long time.
