* The Bootlace Magician by Cassie Beasley
Welcome back to the magic that enchanted us at Circus Mirandus.
The Bootlace Magician by Cassie Beasley. Dial Books, 2019, 416 pages.
Read level: Intermediate, 10-12 years
Recommended for: every age
Micah Tuttle faces grief over the loss of his beloved grandfather. He's also struggling to find his place in the amazing magical circus he's now calling home. This continuation of the middle class can be enjoyed as an independent sequel, but builds well on the first book.
When Micah tries to understand its purpose and the purpose of the circus, a malicious force threatens to upset his new home. In the face of evil, I love the wisdom that Micah has received from his guardian, the Lightbender.
I was so nervous that something would happen to spoil the magic of the Circus Mirandus, but instead The Bootlace Magician only deepened the miracle of the Circus. A lot has happened to Micah, but his struggle to adapt and find his own feet, his grief and deepening friendships are all understandable experiences and join history without affecting them.
With her books, Cassie Beasley brings light into the world of contemporary children's literature in a beautiful and creative way.
