Saint Clare of Assisi: her life and her legislation
by Ernest Gilliat-Smith

Clare of Assisi (July 16, 1194 – August 11, 1253) is an Italian saint and one of the first followers of Francis of Assisi. She founded the Order of Poor Women, a order for women in the Franciscan tradition, and wrote her Rule of Life, the first monastic guidelines known to be written by a woman. After her death, the order she founded was renamed the Order of Saint Clare in her honor, which is now commonly known as the Poor Clare. (via Wikipedia)
