Relentless prayer

Reading a sentence like relentless prayer can sound daunting or it will be a lot of work. The reality is that relentless prayer, or even the biblical reference to ceaseless prayer, can do just as much to invite peace into our lives and circumstances It is about asking heaven for relief from the things that are pressing on us here on earth. Many excellent sermons have been delivered on the idea of a healthy prayer life, consisting of both time for deliberate conversations with God and the need for moment-to-moment prayers that will make us more like breathing … constant and second nature.

Sometimes the busyness or even the heaviness of life can make deliberate, planned times of prayer feel compelled. Fortunately, we can bring this to God knowing that we have a God who understands ALL of our struggles. In these busy or difficult times, continuous short prayers throughout the day can fill the gaps for us. Praying throughout the day not only centers us and helps us focus again on the most important relationship we have, but also brings a sense of peace and control to the most chaotic times. Right now that we live in times of such uncertainty, at Shazzy Fitness we are certain that we can all benefit from a little more prayer in our daily lives. To this end, we issue a prayer call for the rest of July. We will work together to find ways of tirelessly following the guidance and actions that God desires from us and asking for the peace that only He can bring to our world.

July | Week 2

Take the time and space for deliberate prayer and try to keep it at the same time each day. Remember to think quality and consistency over quantity. This can be a prayer time of 15 minutes or an hour or whatever your schedule is, or let's face it, the attention span allows it. We have suggested some prayer requests here to help you get started. However, you are welcome to pray about anything that is close to your heart and mind.

Suggestions for a planned relentless prayer time:

  • The Lord's Prayer
  • Pray for peace, justice, unity, perseverance and hope as we strive for lasting change
  • Pray for our leadership in all areas of government
  • Pray for our first responders, our military and law enforcement
  • Pray for those directly affected by the coronavirus, either from a health point of view, because of a lost job, or because of lost loved ones.
  • Pray for anxiety, depression and loneliness. Pray for an overwhelming feeling of being loved and guarded.
  • All other personal prayer requests

Relentless prayer all day – Choose a scripture that speaks to you and pray it throughout the day with any prayer request that comes to mind.

Some suggested scriptures:

“Always rejoice, pray without ceasing, thank you under all circumstances; because this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. " – 1 Thessalonians 6: 16-18

“Look at the Lord and his strength; always look for his face. " – 1 Chronicles 16:11

"Be happy in hope, patient in need, faithful in prayer." – Romans 12:12

"Then Jesus told his disciples a parable that they should always pray and not give up." Luke 18: 1

July | Weeks 3-4

Continue your prayer time and scripture throughout the day, but add 5 things to start and end each day that you are thankful for in your life. It's okay if some of the answers are the same. On some days the best thing that will happen to us is that we have breath in our lungs. So if that makes your top 5 both morning and night, that's fine. The idea is to develop a grateful mindset no matter how many painful things are going on in the world around us.

We are all tired, but we have so many examples of groups of people who endure difficulties and even atrocities with praise. Let us use their relentless spirit and prayerfully try to honor them by doing the same.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
