My fights are about him
by Max Lucado
What about your fights Is there any chance, any chance, that you have been chosen to fight for God's glory? Were you granted “for Christ's sake not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for his sake” (Philippians 1:29)?
Here's a hint. Do your prayers seem unanswered? What you request and what you get does not match? Do not think that God is not listening. Indeed he is. He can have higher plans.
Here's another one. Do your struggles make people stronger? A friend of mine can answer yes. His cancer was consuming more than his body; it ate at his faith. Unanswered petitions confused him. Well-intentioned Christians confused him. "If you have faith," they said, "you will be healed."
There was no cure. Just more chemo, nausea and questions. He assumed the mistake was a small belief. I suggested a different answer. "It's not about you," I told him. “Your hospital room is a showcase for your Creator. Your faith in the face of suffering increases the volume of God's song. "
Oh that you could have seen the relief on his face. Knowing that he hadn't forsaken God and God hadn't forsaken him – that made all the difference. Seeing his illness within God's sovereign plan made his condition feel dignified. He accepted his cancer as a mission from heaven: as a missionary on the cancer ward.
I saw him again a week later. “I reflected on God,” he said, smiling through a thin face, “to the nurse, the doctors, my friends. Who knows who had to see God, but I've done my best to make him visible. "
Bingo. His cancer led the power of Jesus down the main street of his world.
God will use whatever he wills to show his glory. Sky and stars. History and nations. People and problems.
Instead of indulging in, research your problem. Think about it. And most importantly, you use it. Use it for the glory of God.
May God be seen through your and my problems.
It's not about me
