Mercy & # 39; s Refuge by Rita Gerlach
Educated and entertained
Mercy & # 39; s Refuge by Rita Gerlach is a comprehensive historical novel about the Separatists' journey to the New World in 1620. Fact meets fiction in this delightful new novel.
Rita Gerlach has researched this topic thoroughly as the reader is trained to read.
These were brave men and women who were exposed to dire conditions when storms struck the Mayflower. People had to put their trust and hope in God that He would save them safely.
We travel with the characters from England to the Netherlands, back to England and over to America. With colorful descriptions, the reader can “see” and “experience” the novel with our senses in full alert. I've found myself clenching my teeth at times because the action was tense!
Sometimes there are tragedies that horrify the reader when we are emotionally invested in the novel. It's fact based and real life isn't always kind.
The ruling classes try to exercise their will and desires on those below on the social level. It takes strength to stand up to the higher classes and the belief that justice and common sense will prevail.
The characters were well drawn. It was a pure joy to experience friendships old and new.
I always like Rita Gerlach's novels. It trains and entertains while producing a world-class story. Mercy & # 39; s Refuge was a thoroughly wonderful read. I knew very little about the Mayflower when I started, but now my horizons have broadened and my knowledge deepened as I spent a wonderful afternoon in the company of the characters.
I volunteered to review a free copy of this book that I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
