Kanye West kicked off his presidential offer with an unconventional rally where he cried on stage for an abortion.
The rapper, who had recently converted to Christianity, sobbed uncontrollably at some point when he spoke about the hot button problem.
He claimed he was considering aborting his eldest child, daughter North, but his wife, reality TV star Kim Kardashian-West, was determined to get through the pregnancy. They had North in 2013 and had three other children together.
At the rally in North Charleston, South Carolina, West claimed that his own father wanted to abort him, but his mother refused.
"My mother saved my life," he called from the stage, while he was dressed in a bulletproof vest and shaved "2020" in the back of his head.
"My father wanted to abort me. My mother saved my life. There would have been no Kanye West because my father was too busy," he said.
After finding out that Kim was pregnant with North, Kanye said he didn't want to keep the baby because he lived "the rapper's lifestyle," but he changed his mind when he received a message from God.
"And I called my wife and she said we're going to have this baby. I said we're going to have this baby … Even if my wife divorced me after this speech, she gave birth to North when I didn't want to. She got up and protected the child, "he said.
He then said that he would support a "Plan A" or "A1" to replace the "Plan B" pill after that, which would offer expectant mothers $ 50,000 to help care for their child. Later at the rally, he reported the figure of $ 1 million.
He made it clear that he was not committed to making abortion illegal, but to giving "maximum" financial support to pregnant women.
"My stance is not to make abortion illegal at all. It should always be legal. But there should be an option for a maximum increase," he said.
"The maximum increase would be that anyone who has a baby would get a million dollars."
He also said, "It takes a village to raise a child. The society was founded for single mothers, so as not to have a village, not to have a child."
West often spoke about his Christian faith during his speech and told the crowd that everyone was "equal in God's eyes".
"Sometimes people are controlled by demons, sometimes people are controlled by the environment we are in, but we are all God's people, there are no bad people. There are lost people, but we are all God's people," he said .
