While Covid-19 has had an obvious impact on the clergy and services are now streamed online, it also affects layperson reactions. No fewer than 170 members (out of a total of 500) of the All Souls Community, Langham Place – next to the BBC Broadcasting House in central London – work in healthcare. Many are at the forefront in the fight against the pandemic; others are active in non-urgent areas of the NHS (in the interests of transparency, I should disclose that my wife is one of them). They are all in a long line of officials dating back to the earliest manifestation of Christianity.
