Did you throw in the towel in prayer?

Jesus told his disciples a story about how they should continue to pray and never give up. Luke 18: 1 CEV

I've always been a boxing fan. Boxing is without question a brutal sport that can get out of control in a hurry. To protect his fighter from serious damage, a manager sometimes has to "throw in the towel" for the referee to end the fight.

The phrase "throw in the towel" quickly moved from the boxing world to everyday life. As we all know, when you throw in the towel, you give up … you give up … you accept defeat. And people do it all the time. They throw in the towel over their marriage, graduation, dreams or life. It is easy to throw in the towel. It is much more difficult to prevail and go on.

The struggle with prayer

When it comes to the spiritual discipline called prayer, we are routinely faced with the temptation to throw in the towel and stop. In most cases, the answers to our prayers seem slow. We can start gung-ho about a need or dream or wish just to lose steam as nothing changes visibly. The devil likes to appear in these moments and whispers in our ears: "You are wasting your time, your fool. God will not answer your prayer. Either he does not take care of your needs or he cannot help." She. Regardless, you should reduce your losses, get on your knees, and stop believing in the dream that prayer changes things. Have you ever heard these thoughts swirl through your head? I know I have.

In our discouragement of unanswered prayers, the Lord reminds us: "Do not stop! Pray further! Believe further! Always come before me with your needs. I hear you and it is important to me. I will answer at the right time …" if you don't stop "

You see, the Lord loves persistence. He loves it when we deepen and trust him no matter what the circumstances. He loves it when we refuse to throw in the towel for the prayer need that he has put in our hearts. If we pray according to his will, we can be very confident that he will answer us in due course (see 1 John 5: 14-15).

Shandi is a beautiful young woman and mother in our church. She had been married to her husband Sean for twelve years. She was a Christian and he was not … and she prayed for his redemption. It wasn't intrusive or preaching, but it longed for him to know Christ and have a Christian marriage. She prayed for him and did not give up. One Sunday in the church, she could say that the Lord was working on Sean. Shandi went down to the altar to pray, and she fervently prayed for Sean's salvation. Your prayers were answered that day! While she was on her knees and praying for him, he slipped off the bench and went to the altar to give his life to Jesus … and his nine-year-old son Preston followed him to do the same. Sean and Preston were baptized together two weeks later! Shandi was overjoyed!

That was three years ago. They only told me this story last Sunday evening and both fought back tears. God had done something great in her life, in her marriage, and in her family. Shandi knew that Jesus wanted to save Sean and she would not stop until he answered her prayer!

Did you throw in the towel at prayer? Have you given up this dream, this need, this desire that God has placed in you? Take the towel and get on your knees again. If your prayer is a little out of the center, ask God to refine it so that it fully corresponds to His will.

Prayer really changes things because God answers prayer! So don't stop!
