With many families worried about mortgage payments and job losses, Christian NBA star Stephen Curry and his wife Ayesha do their part by pledging a million free meals for students who are forced to stay at home due to the corona virus.
The Golden State Warriors player said on Twitter that while he and his wife supported school closings in the Oakland region, he was concerned about the over 18,000 children who "spend more than 2 meals a day at school".
In a video message from the couple, Ayesha said: "We want to gather around everyone and make sure that these children don't wonder where their next meal is coming from – and the parents, some of whom are still worried about going to work, have the children's logistics. We just want to make sure we don't have to worry as much. "
The Oakland Unified School District has closed schools until at least April 5 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Steph and Ayesha have long been committed to ending child hunger in the United States through their Eat Learn Play program.
Eat Learn Play is Alameda County Community Food Bank work to support families.
In a statement, the curries said: "Communities that rely on food banks will be hardest hit when we struggle with COVID-19, including children who rely on school meals.
"We contributed to the ACCFB through our Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation. Please join our team and help us provide more than 1 million meals to ensure that no child in our area is worried, where the next meal comes from while the schools are closed. "
