Can You Use Health to Honor God?
Instagram models. Sports bras. Yoga pants. The gym seems to be saturated with it. In fact, you are the only person who wears a T-shirt for miles. It is not surprising that many women ask if fitness has a place in God's plan when all that someone in the gym seems to be doing is looking at themselves in the mirror.
Like all the good things God has created, people sometimes use them for the wrong reasons. This applies more to health and fitness than ever before. Today you will find out why fitness has a place in your Christian life and why you should accept it. And boy, let me tell you, I know how you feel
I decided a while ago to train as a competitive athlete, but I was concerned for so long that it was not "Christian". I was worried that I would do it for the wrong reasons, that it would serve itself. To be honest, the concern should have shown me that my heart position was already in place. I wanted to do sports to inspire other women and show them how resilient God made our bodies. But I was so caught up in the thought that I could do it at a certain level for the approval of others that I almost gave up the idea. But I didn't and you shouldn't either.
So whether you want to be a bikini model competitor, Professional crossfitter or just someone who passionately inspires women to take steps towards a healthy lifestyle. You want to keep reading and find out why God is calling us into the fitness industry.
"So whether you eat or drink orwhatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. "
1 Corinthians 10:31
Fitness can help build our relationship with God. Those hard workouts that feel the hardest are when I feel closest to God. God uses fitness to develop qualities in us that we should use. Mental toughness, persistence, resistance; Struggling the training helps us grow so that we are better equipped with life.
Have you ever had a really hard run or hard training and end up thinking, "I'm glad I showed up for it"? Even though you hated every minute of it, the reward was better than you ever expected or imagined. The exercise teaches us that size is lurking at the other end of the fight. And even during tough training, belief in a good God assures us that he carries us. We can understand that Jesus Christ knows how we feel because He has taken the burden of tremendous torture so we don't have to.
Fitness gives us a whole new perspective on God's grace and extends our relationship with him. Fitness can be used by God to serve its purpose.
All good things from God can be twisted to exalt the self. It's just something we humans can do very well. Unfortunately, this has occurred in the fitness industry because men and women place equal value on their body image and base their happiness on whether they "look good". This is a form of idolatry and God calls us not to fall into these traps. This is not because God wants to take all the fun away, but because idolatry, especially idolatry, turns us into people who are hurt.
Being obsessed with the way your body looks and putting all your luck on it will end up in misery. You will be stressed out on the days you are bloated, you will attack people who do not understand the diet plan you are following, and you will constantly compare yourself to others. This is not a happy way of life. More importantly, God doesn't want us to live.
But fitness doesn't have to be that way. We just have to change the dynamic. If you have God in mind regarding health and fitness, you can make decisions for the good of the kingdom. Would you like to become a fitness professional? This is amazing because God has given you the skills to inspire and help other people to become their healthiest selves. Do you want to be a competitive athlete? By using the gifts that God gave you in fitness, you can show how resilient God has made our bodies. It enables you to show others that they can achieve similar things because God has given us all different gifts and designed us so that we can withstand enormous pressure.
Instead of accomplishing these things because you want to stand on a podium and hear everyone sing your name, change the dynamic. Reach these things so that you can be the one who sings God's name based on what He has done through you.
"For during body trainingis Of a certain value, godliness is of value in every respect, since it is promising for the present life and also for the life to come. "
1 Timothy 4: 8
As Paul says, health and fitness are important, but the most important thing is to make sure that your relationship with God is strong. Using fitness as a tool to show God's goodness and how he wants to help and save us is a wish that he put in you primarily. So don't be afraid to use it!
