More light was shed on the horrific ordeal of a young Christian who was raped and tortured by ISIS militants before being killed.

In a video by the US news broadcaster NCB, British ISIS members Alexanda Kotey and El Shafee Elsheikh shared details of the detention of 26-year-old American Kayla Mueller, who was a helper at her hostage-taking. She died in 2015.

The U.S. military detains Kotey, 36, and Elsheikh, 31, at a base in Iraq.

They belonged to a group of militants who were nicknamed Beatles because of their English accents. The group took prisoners for ransom, but many were killed if their demands were not met.

Kotey described Mueller's imprisonment and said, "She was alone in a room that no one would enter."

Elsheikh told how he "took an email from her" – which means that he extracted a Müller email address to send a ransom note to.

He also described her as being kept alone in a room.

"She was in a big room, it was dark and she was alone and … she was very scared," he said.

Mueller was kidnapped after visiting a MSF hospital in Syria and detained for 18 months. During this time, she was repeatedly raped by ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

In 2016, former hostages said that Müller had campaigned for her Christian faith while in captivity.

"One of the Beatles started saying," Oh, that's Kayla, and she was held on her own. And she's a lot stronger than her. And she's a lot smarter. She's converted to Islam. " then she said, "No, I didn't," said Dutch photographer Ray Ottosen, who was being held next to her.

In an interview for the 20/20 The Girl Left Behind program, he added: "I wouldn't have had the guts to say that. I don't think so."

Her father Carl told the Daily Mail that it was difficult to hear the details of her ordeal.

"It's not easy to go through this. It's been five years since Kayla left, and a year and a half before she was captured. It's hard, very hard," he said.
