Beneath the Scottish Stars by Carla Laureano
Under Scottish Stars by Carla Laureno is the most charming contemporary Christian novel with the family at the center.
The novel takes place on the Isle of Skye, which is very close to my heart when we spent our honeymoon there many years ago (in front of the road bridge). The places were familiar to me so that I could "walk" through the action.
All characters were beautifully drawn. Carla Laureano perfectly captured the mannerisms of small children – I loved their closeness to their mother.
Family is important. Characters lay down their personal dreams for their family. The reader sees selfless love in action.
What we teach our children is crucial. Children learn by watching us. Sometimes they copy behaviors from us that are not what we want for them. We want our children to live freely and not be tied up by our insecurities. God also wants us to live in freedom and to give our lives to Him.
If we are hurt, we can even withdraw from God and hold Him responsible for our situations. We think God doesn't care about his silence. The reality is that we are so focused and looking inward that we forgot to look at him. If we do that, we will see that God was there all the time and waited patiently for our return.
God gave gifts to each of us. We have to use these gifts and not hide them.
The novel had a wonderful, warm community atmosphere when the reader was welcomed to Skye.
Carlo Laureano is a new author for me. I loved Under Scottish Stars. I will surely look for more of her.
I will leave you with my favorite quote:
"You just have to believe some things in life."
