I hand everything over to Jesus

A Matter of Control by J. E. Solinski is a powerful Christian contemporary novel set in Detroit. The focus of the story is on some teenagers and their teacher.

The area is characterized by poverty and drugs. It is a black neighborhood in which the residents are invisible to many. A teacher sees all of her students. She wants to help them succeed despite their background. It can be seen as a motive for God, who sees us all and longs for us to live our best life.

It is ironic that the teacher with her big heart does not see her own son. After giving him all material comfort, she does not see the hurtful personality that lies underneath.

The characters are all well drawn and realistic. The reader's heart breaks for those who are trapped through no fault of their own. "A young man who longed to be loved and wanted to learn." Nobody is really “bad”, but some have made bad decisions despite having golden hearts and eyes that others see.

To know that Jesus is changing life. "Despite the poverty that surrounds them, they had such a sense of peace." The richest people are those whose hearts have completely surrendered to Jesus.

We learn how important it is to be honest. A character thinks he is stupid. Words spoken about him have established themselves in him. The truth is, he is dyslexic and can be helped. He is embarrassed not being able to read at sixteen and hides his lessons from his parents and colleagues. It is a heavy burden to bear. The reader longs to let go of his burden and live freely.

The consequences of bad decisions don't just affect us. The fallout catches those who are around us.

Prayer is our hotline to God. When we pray, God can hear our hearts even when there are no words. "Alex didn't know what to pray, so he kept saying the same thing over and over." Please, God, no ".

A matter of control was such a powerful read. We learn that knowing God does not prevent the storms of life, but when they hit we can be sure that Jesus is in the boat with us.

I cannot praise and recommend A Matter Of Control enough. My words don't do it justice. I urge you to buy the book and immerse yourself in the change of life and heart as you meet Jesus.

I received a free copy of the book from the author. All opinions are my own.
